Know Me

Before moving to the United States for further studies, Chinasa served at Options Consultancy Services – Evidence for Action-MamaYe, a program funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Initially, she was Nigeria’s Country Communications Officer, overseeing all communications activities and creative assets of the program in Nigeria. She later transitioned to a Health Policy Advisory role as the Niger State Advisor. In this capacity, she collaborated closely with the State Ministry of Health, Civil Society Organizations, the media, and other health actors to strengthen systems that improve maternal and newborn health. She provided hands-on technical support in building the capacities of coalitions to engage in state budget development processes, track health implementations, identify gaps and priority issues for health funding, and engage with policymakers through evidence-based advocacy.

Her efforts have had a practical impact on healthcare delivery, including linking service delivery to health financing, which has increased the availability of life-saving consumables (Misoprostol, oxytocin, magnesium sulfate, etc.), and skilled healthcare personnel in health facilities across states where the E4A-MamaYe program was implemented. During the coronavirus outbreak in Nigeria, as a member of the African Union Center for Disease Control (ACDC) AVoHC network, Chinasa utilized her humanitarian and risk communication skills to support the Niger State Rapid Response Team. She helped carry out rapid assessments of the state’s preparedness and designed preventive measures, social mobilization, and sensitization programs to slow the infection transmission rate without disrupting essential healthcare services.

In 2014/15, Chinasa was a frontline responder during the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, volunteering as a Communications and Social Mobilization Officer in Nigeria. She coordinated media platforms to disseminate Ebola preventive messages and worked with stakeholders to develop intervention strategies and communication materials for community outreach. The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control seconded her to the African Union as a Humanitarian Affairs and Communications Officer in Sierra Leone, where she worked with the Sierra Leone Ministry of Social Welfare, the World Food Program(WFP) and UNICEF, UNMEER, and the Emergency Response Central Coordination Center (DERC) and various international organizations to provide psychosocial support, community engagement, and child protection services, among other activities to affected survivors and families.

As a ONE Campaign advocate, Chinasa has been a two-time ONE Campaign Africa Champion and is now part of the ONE US Activist network. She has engaged in various policy advocacy efforts on health financing to promote pro-poor health policies. In 2016, she was part of the ONE Africa youth delegates that lobbied for the replenishment of the Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria during the OECD ministerial council summit in France, at the time the OECD countries were considering cutting support for The Global Fund. In the US, she advocates to house members on broad foreign aid budget allocations, especially lobbying for the reauthorization of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief-PEPFAR, and in Nigeria, she is part of the coalition of advocates working to improve health financing policies to expand universal health coverage.

Beyond her work in global health, Chinasa is also committed to youth and women empowerment.. As the visionary founder of SieDi-Hub, a nonprofit in Nigeria, she leads initiatives that promote social justice and access to rights-based welfare services – driving positive change – through innovative research, policy engagements, human capacity development, and direct program interventions. She is also a co-founder of the African Youth Employment Initiatives-AYEI; a pan-African platform that empowers young people in rural communities across countries in Africa (Ghana, Uganda, Ivory Coast, Burundi, Malawi, Tanzania, and the Central Africa Republic) where access to land is not difficult. They use innovative agricultural systems and practices to design sustainable career path for young people, while also solving food insecurity in Africa. AYEI is a member of the youth advisory board of the African Development Bank and has special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Chinasa’s academic achievements include a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Administration (honors) from Nnamdi Azikiwe University Faculty of Management Sciences, a Master’s Degree in Diplomacy and Strategic Studies from The University of Lagos School of Post-Graduate Studies, a Master of Arts in International Development Policy from the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy, and she is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Global Health and Social Welfare Policy at the University of Chicago’s Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice. She also serves in advisory roles for various NGOs and social enterprises, providing strategic insights for impactful projects.

Driven by a passion for equity living on the south side of Chicago, Chinasa is using her voluntary experience to reduce disparities in access to care for women and youth facing adversity in South Side Chicago. Her focus involves implementing safe space psychosocial and psychoeducational support program for overcoming vulnerabilities associated with abusive situations and domestic violence. Her commitment lies in empowering these individuals for resilience and recovery. She is a 2023/2024 Albert Schweitzer Chicago Land Fellow, a 2024 Chicago Chapter Change Collective, and a 2024 and 2025 University of Chicago Center for Health Administration Studies Grantee.

Outside of her professional work, Chinasa enjoys travelling, dancing, and listening to music. She also explores cooking as a way to unwind and uses documentary photography to tell human-interest stories. Occasionally, she writes blogs and articles on broad development issues.
