The World Health Organization (WHO) Civil Society Commission has appointed Chinasa U. Imo, Founder and Executive Director of SieDi-Hub and the Convener of What About Rural health?, to serve as a member of the Steering Committee of the WHO Civil Society Commission for the 2025-2027 term. The Steering Committee comprises of 24-member representative of civil society across all WHO regions.
Imo, a global health policy strategist and PhD candidate at the University of Chicago, has extensive experience in public health emergency response, health systems governance, and civil society engagement across Africa. Through her leadership at SieDi-Hub and What About Rural Health?, she has worked to advance rural health equity, youth and women empowerment, and gender justice.
Speaking on her appointment, Imo stated: “Real change in healthcare access begins when communities are part of the conversation. My vision for the CSO Commission is to move beyond consultation and bring the voices of rural and hard-to-reach communities to the table as we deliberate and shape global health agendas. I look forward to collaborating with fellow Steering Committee members and WHO partners to strengthen civil society engagement in global health governance, shape responsive health systems, and ensure our collective voices drive meaningful, equitable change.”
Her appointment reflects the WHO’s recognition of the vital role civil society plays in shaping inclusive, equitable global health systems.
